Therapy Worked. I Still Feel Disconnected.

You did not skip anything. You went, you stayed, you did the difficult sessions and the homework between them. Everything you brought got resolved. You are still standing behind glass.

Why Did Therapy Not Fix How I Feel After the Baby?

Because therapy is built to process material, and the state you are describing is often what remains once the material has already been processed thoroughly and well.

Every therapeutic modality has a target. Trauma work metabolises trauma. Cognitive work reorganises thought. Somatic work discharges what the body held. Each of them is genuinely effective against the thing it was designed to meet, and a woman who has done that work has usually met those things properly.

Flatness is not one of those things. It presents no wound to process, no distortion to correct, and no held charge to discharge. It presents an absence, and absences do not respond to metabolism.

Does That Mean the Therapy Was a Waste?

Not remotely, and the sequence usually runs the other way. Women who have done the therapeutic work arrive at this question far clearer than women who have not.

They can describe their own patterns accurately. They know their history and its effects. They have language for their internal states and a tolerance for difficult conversation that most people never develop. All of that is durable equipment and none of it evaporates.

What they have discovered is the edge of what that equipment addresses, which is a genuine finding rather than a failure.

“Therapy resolves what you carry into the room. It has no instrument for what was never a wound.”

What Is Left Once the Processing Is Finished?

A structural question rather than a psychological one: where does your attention point, and has anything pointed it at you in the last several years?

Motherhood arranges a woman around external requirements with total efficiency. Her interior stops receiving inspection, not because she suppressed it, but because nothing in the arrangement requires the inspection and everything in it requires the opposite. The adaptation serves the child extremely well.

It also runs indefinitely once the emergency has passed, because the arrangement contains no mechanism for its own release. A woman can be four years clear of any crisis and still entirely arranged around one.

Is This Something a Therapist Should Handle?

Where clinical symptoms exist, absolutely, and a good therapist remains the correct destination for those. Persistent low mood, hopelessness, intrusive thought, or an inability to function all belong in that room.

This state is a different order of problem. It concerns direction of attention rather than content of mind, and it responds to a different kind of hour: one where a woman is examined closely, at length, as a whole person rather than as a presenting complaint.

The two are not competitors. Most women who reach me have already done the therapeutic work honestly, and that groundwork makes the session considerably faster.

What Does the Other Kind of Hour Look Like?

It begins with the woman rather than with her symptom, and it does not require her to have identified a problem before she arrives.

Your chart describes native wiring, established long before any of this: how you nurture, how you require nurture in return, where your attention goes untended, what genuinely depletes you as opposed to what should. None of it updates when a baby arrives, which makes it a reliable description of the woman underneath the arrangement.

Read after motherhood rather than before it, that description becomes considerably more useful, because it becomes possible to see which parts have been carrying the entire load and which have had no outlet at all since the birth.

A woman who has done the work and still feels flat has not failed at therapy. She has reached the boundary of what processing addresses, and found a question on the other side of it that requires a different instrument entirely.

Questions women ask about this

Why do I still feel numb after therapy and EMDR?

Because both metabolise material, and numbness of this kind is usually what remains once material has been metabolised. It is a matter of where attention points rather than of unresolved content, and processing does not redirect attention.

Should I go back to therapy if I still feel flat?

Return if clinical symptoms are present or if you have unprocessed material you can actually name. If neither applies and the flatness persists regardless, more of the same instrument is unlikely to produce a different result.

Is astrology a replacement for therapy?

No, and any practitioner who suggests otherwise should be avoided. Astrology describes structure and wiring. It does not treat depression, anxiety or trauma, and it is not a substitute for medical or psychological care.
